Coming In At #8....West Boca Raton High School
Posted on 8/16/2007 @ 4:27 pm EDT by josh

Football The Bulls from West Boca had a dream season last year, making it all the way to the 3rd round of the playoffs. To repeat that performance this season, they are going to need a monumental effort from a certain player.

Team: West Boca Raton

Schedule:
Week 1: @ Spanish River
Week 2: Wellington
Week 3: @ Lake Worth
Week 4: Boca Raton
Week 5: @ Royal Palm Beach
Week 6: @ Boynton Beach
Week 7: Atlantic
Week 8: @ Forest Hill
Week 9: Dwyer
Week 10: Olympic Heights
Week 11: Bye

Strength: Passing Offense- QB Robert Powell has become a well known name as he's now entering his 3rd year as the starting quarterback for West Boca. He's got a rocket arm, solid athleticism, and now one of the best weapons in the area to throw to. That weapon would be TE and Louisville committment Nate Nord, who is one of the top pass catching TE prospects in the entire state. Throw in Atlantic transfer WR Marquelle Bernard and a quality offensive line to protect, and it has the makings of one of the top passing attacks in the county.

Weakness: Depth- If you take the top 5 or 6 players from this West Boca team, they can compete with most schools around the state. However, it takes all 11 on the field working together to make a great team, and at this point, West Boca does not have that. If they are to repeat on last years great season, they are going to need alot of young and inexperienced players to step up and help carry the load.

Key Player: QB Robert Powell- Realistically, Robert is really going to have to carry the Bulls offense. It will be the success of his rocket arm that will determine just how far this team will go. Fortunately, his experience should play a key role.

Key Game: Everyone remembers the hype surrounding the West Boca vs. Dwyer game last season, and for good reason as it was the deciding game in the district. However, that game isn't going to take place again unless West Boca takes care of business early in the season against Boca Raton in week 4 and then again against an underrated Boynton Beach team in week 6.

Outlook: This ranking may be a little bit higher than many expected, but West Boca needs to be rewarded for the season they put together last year. And while they did lose some key players, they also return alot of key players and will not be an easy victory for any team on their schedule. At the end of the day though, this team just doesn't have the depth that it did last year to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Prediction: 7-3 (3-1), 2nd in District.
