  #6- Clewston High School
Posted on 8/18/2007 @ 6:20 pm EDT by josh

Football The Tigers from Clewiston ended last year suffering one of the most heartbreaking defeats any team in the county has ever suffered. Will that give them the modivation they need in 2007?

Team: Clewiston

Schedule:
Week 1: American Heritage (Plantation)
Week 2: @ LaBelle
Week 3: @ Glades Day
Week 4: @ Glades Central
Week 5: American Heritage (Delray Beach)
Week 6: Cardinal Newman
Week 7: Bye
Week 8: @ Pope John Paul II
Week 9: @ Inlet Grove
Week 10: St. Andrews
Week 11: @ Okeechobee

Strength: Defensive Front 7- Anytime you feature players like DE Delvin Hughes, DT Willie Armstrong, and LB Collin Rickets, you are going to have an advantage over the opposing offense most of the time. Factor in that we are talking the 2A level, and the Tigers from Clewiston should be flat out dominant in that regard. Much like last season, expect Clewiston to be a nightmare to both running backs and quarterbacks all season long.

Weakness: Defensive Secondary- This was potentially the strength of the entire team last season, but gone are all 4 starters, so that means loads of inexperience and uncertainty for this unit this season. The Tigers need some young players to step up if the defense is going to play at the same level of last season.

Key Player: TE/DE Delvin Hughes- Quite possibly the most dominant 2-way player in the county. Delvin is the premier defensive end, as he uses his great quickness and leverage to negate to dominate opposing tackles. He's very underrated on the offensive side of the ball though, as he's a devastating blocker and he showed what he's capable of in the passing game this spring with a huge effort in the spring game.

Key Game: Sugar Bowl- As with almost every season, this is the game that the Tiger faithful will schedule as the biggest game of the season. It's always a gauge as to just how good the team will be come playoff time. Any time that Clewiston shows enough to win this game, you know they are ready for a deep playoff run. This season should be no different.

Outlook: While they may not have the overall depth of last season, this Tiger team is still loaded and should physically beat up most of the teams on the schedule. Fortunately for Clewiston also is that their 2A rival Chaminade-Madonna suffered a coaching change and significant loss of talent. For that reason, expect Clewiston to be right in the thick of things to get back to the state championship.

Prediction: 9-1, 1st in District
